Dramatic Play
Dramatic play has proven to be an important element in the development of self-regulation.   As children engage in fantasy play with their peers, they must set the boundaries of play, assign roles and responsibilities, and work cooperatively to bring their ideas to life.  This requires a tremendous amount of cooperation, self-regulation, and impulse control.  Lev  Vgotsky believed that young children achieve their "greatest self-control" during pretend play. Organizing and setting the rules and boundaries for pretend play facilitate higher lever comprehension and thinking skills.  These skills are required for school success.  (Bergen, 2002)
